Despite Wall Street Buying, Why Is XRP’s Price Stagnant?

XRP (XRP, Ripple) has struggled to show a price rebound despite news of ETF investments by a major Wall Street investment bank, drawing attention to the reasons behind its muted performance.

According to cryptocurrency-focused outlet Watcher.Guru on March 12 (local time), Goldman Sachs revealed that it holds approximately $154 million in exposure to a spot XRP ETF. While this disclosure raised expectations for expanded institutional investment, the price has shown little movement. XRP is currently trading at around $1.37, down about 0.72% over the past 24 hours.

The first reason cited for the stagnant price is that the scale of institutional inflows is not yet sufficient to fundamentally drive the market price higher. The outlet explained that XRP would require significantly stronger institutional capital inflows to establish a meaningful upward trend, and that the current level of ETF exposure is insufficient to shift the market structure.

The second reason is that capital flows remain concentrated in Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). With liquidity and capital in the cryptocurrency market continuing to move toward major large-cap assets, altcoins such as XRP are receiving relatively less attention. The outlet noted that if Bitcoin’s upward trend continues, an “altcoin rotation” could follow, in which capital flows into alternative cryptocurrencies, potentially giving XRP an opportunity to rebound.

A relatively optimistic long-term outlook was also presented. According to data from CoinCodex, XRP could reach approximately $1.63 by the end of 2026, representing a gain of about 19.17% from its current price. Longer-term forecasts suggest it could rise to $5.36 by 2030, $8.08 by 2040, and $13.27 by 2050.

Ultimately, while Goldman Sachs’ investment in an XRP ETF is seen as a symbolic sign of institutional interest, it is considered insufficient to act as a short-term price catalyst given current market capital flows and scale. Market participants are watching closely to see whether XRP can regain upward momentum if an altcoin rotation materializes following a sustained Bitcoin rally.
